Living an ART filled life...“Creativity is a God-given ability to take something ordinary and make it into something special. It is an openness to doing old things new ways…The creative spirit is part of our heritage as children of the One who created all things. And nurturing our creativity is part of our responsibility as stewards of God’s good gifts.” - Emilie Barnes, The Spirit of Loveline

Obedience, it’s not a four letter word:)

Obedience, it’s not a four letter word:)

I think we hear the word obedience as a “four letter word.” Why? Because we don’t like to be told what to do! And…we have our OWN agenda. “I want what I want and I want it NOW!” -Veruca Salt Speaking of not wanting to […]

The Gospel Life

The Gospel Life

Love Your City/ Sue Carroll
Our church, Rivers Crossing Community Church, just started a new series this week entitled “The Gospel Life.”

Gospel is the translation of the Greek noun euangelion “good news,” and the verb euangelizo , meaning “to bring or announce good news.”

Both words are derived from the noun angelos, “messenger.”

That is our Commission…our Holy assignment…to be messengers of the Good news.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed”

 – Luke 4:18

As I sat and listened to a great message and introduction to this series on the Gospel, in front of me, sat a young man…and the back of his t-shirt read

“Love your City”

How perfect is God’s timing…

As I sat in God’s presence, I was continually drawn to the back of this shirt and the idea that the heart of “The Gospel” is not just to HEAR the good news, but to PROCLAIM it…

to anyone who will listen…to any place we find ourselves…our city.

“But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” -Jeremiah 29:7

A simple message, yet one we tend to set aside for others.  Those who are called to the inner city missions, the homeless shelters, the children’s homes…not our schools, our work place, the local grocery store or our suburban neighborhoods…

BUT, when any of us live without the love, power an light given to us by our creator we are most certainly POOR…the poorest of the poor.

I love this quote from Francis of Assisi, (shared in the morning sermon)

“It is no use walking anywhere to preach unless our walking is our preaching.”

We can’t just preach the good news…we must live it.

Father, help me to live the Gospel wherever I am.

In Him,
