Pillow Talk!

Pillow Talk!

Happy Friday!

I am eager to share this little “doodle” and the the thought behind it with you today!  It evolved from a 4 day lesson on Abiding that you can find on my blog by clicking here.

It is the basis of study for a 6 week Bible Art Journaling Class I am teaching presently at my home church,

Many of you have read here on my blog about the 3,2 1, method of study. (If you haven’t, see the link above by clicking on the word “here,” )

It is the process of prayerfully studying God’s Word, verse by verse by…

3 -re-stating 3 FACTS you have pulled from the verse. (plain and simple)

2 -asking 2 QUESTIONS and then answering them. (Questions like, “what does this tell me about God’s character, Is there a promise for me, Is there a warning for me to heed…)

1 -responding with 1 ACTION

John 15:7-15

7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

To remain in the Lord, to abide in Christ…I must give Him my first thoughts, my last thoughts, and everything in between. It’s all about staying connected to the vine…without it, we will wither and die. (separated from the Father)

If I get up, having not surrendered my thoughts, my time, my schedule, my family, & my heart to the Lord… I will not be fruitful, I will not fulfill my purpose, I will loose faithful ground, operating in my own power for my own glory.

If I am not walking with Him, I am walking away from Him.

Simple but true.

I want to open my eyes…and before my head lifts from my pillow…I want to thank the Lord for a new day…as I surrender it. It is rightfully His.

-and when the day is done, as I lay my head down, it is with a thankful heart, & with my last breath, that I praise Him. For He is worthy of all glory and praise.

As we “steep” in God’s Word there is CHANGE that is meant to occur. Growth, designed to lead us toward our purpose. If we leave God’s Word (which is power) on the pages of our Bible, never having wielded our sword, we will remain unchanged.

It isn’t easy for us to turn off our me me me attitude. It is a common occurrence to become distracted by our own selfish desires.

It takes PRACTICE, to turn from our sinful hearts to follow the Lord.

We MUST decide to get practical with our application of truth. Practical with our application of surrender. It doesn’t come to us naturally.

“Pillow Talk” is something that I practice. It takes time, but with repetition and commitment it becomes a habit. Like brushing your teeth.

Eyes first awake …talk to God. Acknowledge that He is God and you are not…Thankful for the gift of a new day. Eager to do what He has planne for your good.

Eyes close at night…talk to God. Thankful for HIs provision. Thankful for the opportunity of growth, to become more like Him. Grateful for the promise of another new day…whatever it brings. He works all things together for our good.

First thought, last thought…of the ONE who gave all things life.

Practice makes perfect…I’ve got a lot of practing to do!

Until the day the Lord completes me.

“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” -Phil 1:6

Bless you!

  • Thank you again Sue for such lovely work and your ministry to all of us near and far. I am still praying for you and understand some of the journey you are on. My mother passed away two short months ago. She and I were very close and the pain and separation from her is raw and rough. I am so blessed to still have my Daddy and that is a path too. Trying to figure out how to care, empathize, what and who I am now with him is a journey. Mama’s have a special way of holding a family together, of making things work, of being what daughters need and even though I am a Daddy’s girl…yes, still to this late age in life…there are so many adjustments. I can only imagine how hard things have been for you lately. I like you found comfort, a purpose, a direct line to my precious Father when I have my art. You have touched so many through your obedience to God and to sharing His gifts with us. Again, know that there are many praying for you and THANK YOU!

    • Oh Trina, I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. It is so very hard to lose those we love. We must cling to the hope we have in Christ. He will be your peace dear Sister. You are SO right about the special role our Mom’s play in binding our families together in love…it is something that we daughter’s have learned and will carry on! Praying that this special “tie” of your heart strings will bring you peace and joy as you continue to love your family as your precious Mother did. Thank you so much for sharing your story and your heart with me…what a gift you must be to your Daddy ❤️ Thank you also for your thoughtful prayers and words of encouragement, they lift my spirits and remind me of our Good Father, who works all things together for our good. Much love to you Trina!
