Living an ART filled life...“Creativity is a God-given ability to take something ordinary and make it into something special. It is an openness to doing old things new ways…The creative spirit is part of our heritage as children of the One who created all things. And nurturing our creativity is part of our responsibility as stewards of God’s good gifts.” - Emilie Barnes, The Spirit of Loveline

The Virtue of Contentment / WK 3 / Day 5

HERE WE ARE ALREADY…

The Last day of WEEK 3!

To review once again…

In Week 1 we “dug deeper” into

our “feelings” or “emotions” (that are often NOT rooted in truth) and the roller coaster we can be on that keeps us from the steady peace & joy the Lord desires for us to have

In Week 2 we “dug deeper” into

our relationships…both with each other, and with the Lord, and how past experiences can influence the way we “see” things…distorting our view of WHO we are and WHOSE we are.

This week, we “dug deeper” into

the importance of operating from our “owners manual” ( God’s Holy Word) and the effects of “running our machine” outside the “manufacturers guidelines”. -LET’S GET OUT OUR MANUALS!

The Virtue of Contentment/ Wk3/ Day 2 / Sue Carroll

TRUTH…according to 1 Timothy 6:3-10

-All teaching must be measured with God’s Word

-If we choose our own doctrine (apart from Christ) we are rooted in PRIDE which produces controversy, quarrels, envy, slander, evil, suspicions, and constant friction.

-godliness does not = gain

-Only RIGHTEOUS godliness produces gain——-> which yields contentment

I studied for years under one of the most humble and loving teachers I have ever had the privilege of knowing. Carol ALWAYS pointed to Christ.

She began each session with the verse below…

The Virtue of Contentment / WK3/Day 5/ Sue Carroll

What she was saying was…”don’t take my word for it… Go make sure what I say is truth…please…God requires it:)

What we have studied this week in Matthew confirms Acts 17:11.  We must not accept whatever is being taught without “examining the Scriptures DAILY to see if these things ARE so.”

Are we eager to know God’s Word for ourselves, or are we “content” to accept what someone else tells us?

We cannot base our faith on someone else’s faith…it will then, never be our own.

“…4 My message and my preaching were not with persuasive words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 5 so that your faith would not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.” 1 Cor 2:5

The 3, 2, 1 Method of study (we are using in The Virtue of Contentment) is a simple process for “EXAMINING THE SCRIPTURES DAILY”  for ourselves. I hope that it has been helpful to you!

ACTS 17:11 is a CALL TO ACTION that we must take if we are going to move forward in the direction God is calling us to go.

TRUTH…according to Matthew 6:26-34

-Being anxious is NOT from the Lord

-If God cares for “the least” of all creatures, He absolutely cares for me

-Our Father knows what we NEED. If we SEEK HIM 1st, all “things” will “fall into place” (“will be added unto you”)

I could study the Scriptures from this week for months.  There is so much to learn from them.  As you have prayerfully processed God’s Word with the Holy Spirit, along with the questions in your workbook, I hope that you are beginning to EXPERIENCE this reality…

ABIDING IN CHRIST = CONTENTMENT.

I pray that the Lord is revealing the very things that cause your heart to wander away from Him…distractions, wounds, pride, restentment, broken relationships, anxiety, & fear.

The enemy knows these things all to well.

From C. S. Lewis / The Screwtape Letters

“Indeed the safest road to Hell is the gradual one—the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts. It is often said that we are either moving toward God or away from Him. But if we have too great a sense of moving away from Him, we may stop moving from Him and try to move toward Him.

God wants us to understand the true state of our souls—the way that He sees us. But Satan wants us in the dark, moving away but not realizing it; falling deeper while not recognizing we are falling at all. Then, after we have fallen very far, we may finally look up and see how far away we are from God, and despair of God’s ability to pull us back.” -C.S. Lewis

As we bring things out of the dark and into the light we will see them for what they really are…we will have power over them.

Remember this from WK 2

“The Lord’s POWER is made perfect in my weakness!”

PRACTICE HIS PRESENCE

PAUSE

PRAY

& THEN

PROCEED

The MORE we KNOW our FATHER, the more we will LOVE HIM…

HIS DESIRES will become OUR DESIRES…and following Him will be our joy.

Let Him illuminate every corner of your heart.

It all comes down to a choice:)

Father, draw us to Yourself. Forgive us for our stumbling, our lack of faith, our sin.  We come under your authority, proclaiming your GREAT NAME, with thankful hearts.  We give you all the Glory, forever. Amen.

I “promised” that I would post a DOODLE 101 that I have transferred into my Bible…This was also on my prayer page in my TVOC workbook:)The Virtue of Contentment / WK 3 / Doodle 101/ Mountains / Sue CarrollThe Virtue of Contentment / WK 3 / Doodle 101/ Mountains / Sue Carroll
